AUBARCA - ATALAIA FREDA

Route description:

Spectacular route that combines sea and mountains, crossing the heart of the LLevant Natural Park. We start the excursion with a long descent of about 8 km towards some of the incredible unspoilt sandy beaches offered by the Parc Natural de Llevant, "Sa Font Salada" and "S'Arenalet d'Aubarca" with their crystalline waters that invite you to take a bath. In the second part of the route, we suggest you climb Sa Talaia Freda, which at 564 meters is the highest mountain in Artà and the Serra de Llevant. The northern slope is steep, with cliffs that reach almost to the sea. And it is from the sea, where we will start a long climb up a forest track "S'Esquena Llarga" with steep slopes that alternate with smoother sections. Once we overcome this first climb, we link up with an old road that will lead us to the final climb, more technical and with a steep drop that we do not leave until the top. The views are magnificent, especially those of the northern slope, with spectacular panoramic views of the Artà, Na Clara and Es Caló coastline, two of its virgin beaches and the spectacular Serra de Tramuntana in the background. It is surely worth the effort made to get there.

From here, we will descend towards the second peak of the route, Puig de Sa Creu (492 m), it has a large cross on top (hence its name) and hides a surprise: a box so that people can leave written notes. We will continue descending to the Puig del Migdia viewpoint. We will then come to the S'Alqueria Vella de Dalt ditch and finally to the building that houses the S'Alqueria mill (also known as Ses Cotxeries). After the houses, we arrive at the starting point.
